Agenda:  

NJ Cannabis Insider Awards June 8 recognized achievements in the cannabis industry. Ken Wolski, co-founder of CMMNJ, won the Lifetime Achievement award

2nd Annual National Cannabis Patients’ Awareness Day, Mon., 7/10 or 'Oil Day’ at the State House in Trenton. Nearly two dozen states will participate to expand rights for medical cannabis patients and unify U.S. advocacy efforts. Visit sativacross.org or contact LeftyGrimes@gmail.com.

A hearing on S2934, the “Psilocybin Behavioral Health Access and Services Act” to authorize the production and use of psilocybin to promote health and wellness, was held June 26th.

NJ is working to ban Delta-8. Hearing on A5440: Prohibits production and sale of delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol 6/30/2023. 

NJ’s cannabis union, UFCW Local 360 has an apprenticeship program to provide training to start a career in NJ’s legal weed industry as a retail employee.

Expanded Equity Funding for NJ Licensees Heads to Governor’s Desk: the legislation, A4151, will allow far greater levels of investment in minority, women and disabled veteran owned adult use cannabis businesses.

Federal Drug Policy Reform: 

US House committee approves research for medical cannabis, psychedelicsTreatments could include: Psilocybin; MDMA; Ibogaine; & DMT.
Maryland Legalizes Adult-Use Sales, effective July 1 adults 21 and older will be able to possess, consume, and purchase cannabis throughout Maryland. The law also expands Maryland’s social equity efforts.

The U.S. District Court for New Jersey found the NJ Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement Assistance, and Marketplace Modernization Act ("CREAMMA"), does not allow job applicants and employees to file lawsuits alleging adverse actions based on marijuana use

“I agree pricing is too high in the legal market. If we can license more businesses and expand retail outlets –-that’s the best way the CRC can impact illegal sales,” said CRC Executive Director Jeff Brown. 

CRC conditionally approved 1,300 of the initial 2,000 overall license applications — and collected $9.5 million in tax revenues. 

At least 3 more NJ stores approved for adult use marijuana sales are opening.

  • hospital & institutional access; and 
  • expanded qualifying conditions. 

Medical Cannabis Insurance bills:

  • S313/A3248: Costs of medical cannabis to be reimbursed by Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund, PAAD, Senior Gold and VCCO. 
  • S309/A3511: Requires workers' compensation, PIP, and health insurance coverage. 
  • S782/A3932: Subsidize medical cannabis in Medicaid or NJ Family Care.

  • S342/A997: Authorizes home cultivation of medical cannabis.
  • A1422: Legalizes possession of six marijuana plants for personal use.
  • S353/A3657: Legalizes six plants for personal use and 10 plants for medical

Hospital and Institutional Access: 

NJ patients in hospitals, nursing homes, state institutions, group homes and hospice are unable to access medical cannabis. Implement the Jake Honig law’s Institutional Caregivers to accomplish this!

Expanded qualifying conditions: 

Qualifying for cannabis therapy should be allowed for any condition that a healthcare professional with prescription privileges determines is in the best interest of the patient.
