NJ State Senator Turner Supports Home Grow

Dear Mr. Wolski,

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for Senate Bill 2564, which would permit authorized medical cannabis patients and certain other individuals to home cultivate limited quantities of cannabis for personal use.  I appreciate hearing from you.

I am pleased to let you know that I am a cosponsor of S2564.  I agree that allowing limited home cultivation can provide patients with a more affordable and accessible option, particularly for those who may face financial barriers or limited proximity to licensed dispensaries.

As this legislation continues through the legislative process, I will remain engaged in discussions to ensure that New Jersey’s medical cannabis program reflects patient centered, compassionate, and commonsense policies.  Thank you again for writing and for your advocacy on behalf of patients across our state.  If you have additional comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Shirley K. Turner

TO:

Dear Senator Shirley K. Turner,

S. 2564 would allow adults 21 and older to grow up to six cannabis plants for personal recreational use, with a 12-plant household cap. It would also allow qualifying patients to grow up to 10 plants for medical use.

New Jersey voters approved adult-use legalization, yet the law still prevents adults from cultivating cannabis at home. All but three of the other 23 legalization states allow home cultivation. New Jersey should catch up.

Home cultivation is a matter of personal freedom and fairness. Adults can brew beer at home, but they face felony charges if they grow a few cannabis plants.

Importantly, S. 2564 does not authorize unregulated commercial activity. It simply allows responsible adults to grow a limited number of plants for personal use.

Can I count on you to support S. 2564?

Thank you for your public service.

Sincerely,

Ken Wolski
